Biography
Mike Gao, aka Nightprowl, is an American rapper and producer whose colorful palette of sounds incorporates elements from alternative hip-hop to glitch and dubstep. Best known for his affiliation with the Galapagos4 label, he has produced releases by other like-minded artists like Qwel, Mestizo, Robust, and OffwhyteAlthough Mike Gao's journey began in Chicago's underground rap scene, he later relocated to Los Angeles, California, quickly inserting himself in the city's burgeoning beatmaking scene. Shortly after, he won the first ever Project Blowed Beat Battle and was invited to perform at the Low End Theory Beat Invitational event alongside Living Legends' Luckyiam and Freestyle Fellowship's Mikah 9. Some of his most notable releases include the split EP Los Angeles 8/10 (2010) with TOKiMONSTA and Finest Ego: Faces 12" Series Vol. 2 (2012), a joint album with electronic beatmaker Daisuke Tanabe. As for his solo efforts, Mike Gao has garnered widespread critical acclaim through instrumental albums such as Migamo (2015), Land Escape (2017), and Human Recursion (2019).
