Bernhard Günter, born in 1957 in Neuwied, Germany, is a German composer and improvisational musician. Initially influenced by free jazz, Günter began playing tabla before transitioning to drums and jazz guitar. In the 1980s, he studied at IRCAM in Paris under Pierre Boulez, marking his shift towards electronic music. Günter's debut album Un peu de neige salie was released in 1993 and later featured in The Wireâs list 100 Records that Set the World on Fire (While No One Was Listening. He founded his own label, Trente Oiseaux, in 1995. His compositions were influenced by Morton Feldman and his work "The Ant Moves/The Black and Yellow Carcass/A Little Closer" was highlighted at the Prix Ars Electronica in 1999. Throughout his career, Günter has collaborated with various sound artists.
