Michelle Jacqueline Chamuel, born in 1986 in Wellesley, Massachusetts, is an American singer, songwriter, and producer who began piano and violin lessons at an early age and later studied performing arts technology at the University of Michigan. Her first notable public exposure came in 2007 when she joined the Ann Arborâbased band My Dear Disco, later renamed Ella Riot, as lead vocalist; the group released the studio album Dancethink in 2008 and the EP Love Child in 2011 before going on hiatus. After the bandâs pause, Chamuel released the selfâtitled album s/he in 2011, followed by the EP All the Pretty People in 2012 and the EP EP 1 later that year. In 2013 she appeared on season four of The Voice USA, finishing as runnerâup after performing tracks such as "I Kissed a Girl" and "Just Give Me a Reason", which earned recognition on the artistâs official site. That same year she issued her solo album All I Want under her own name, reaching Number Six on the U.S. Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and later released the single "Go Down Singing". Her subsequent albums Face the Fire (2015), Insights & Turnpikes (2017), and Couldn't Stay (2020) expanded her catalog, with Face the Fire attaining Number TwentyâOne on the U.S. Independent Albums chart; she also produced the score for the 2023 film Glitter & Doom.
