Biography
Michel Faubert, born on June 1, 1959, in Choisy, Rigaud, Canada, is a Canadian singer, storyteller, and ethnographer. Growing up in a family of farmers, Faubert was immersed in folk music during family gatherings. Inspired by the cultural revival of the 1970s, he began collecting traditional songs and legends from his region of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. In 1988, Michel Faubert met Ernest Fradette, a storyteller who shared his rich heritage of tales. This encounter led to the release of Maudite mémoire in 1992, featuring medieval laments and tavern songs. Faubert collaborated with various artists, including Claude Lamothe and La Bottine souriante, and founded the a cappella group Les Charbonniers de l'enfer. His album L'écho des bois, released in 1997, won him a Félix Award for Folk Album of the Year. In 2006, Michel Faubert collaborated with Jérôme Minière on La fin du monde.
