Biography

Michael Werner Sagmeister, born on July 27, 1959 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is a German jazz and fusion guitarist. Raised by his grandparents, Sagmeister began his musical journey playing rock-jazz and blues in 1975. His breakthrough came in 1978 when he formed the Michael Sagmeister Trio, which gained attention at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. Sagmeister has collaborated with notable artists such as Pat Martino, Larry Coryell, Billy Cobham, Jack DeJohnette, Dave Samuels, Randy Brecker, Miroslav Vitouš, Albert Mangelsdorff, Wolfgang Dauner. He has also performed in solo concerts and duets with his wife, singer Antonella D'Orio. Sagmeister's discography includes over 30 albums and three instructional books, notably Michael Sagmeister's Jazzgitarre, considered a standard reference. His educational contributions include teaching at the Berklee College of Music from 1993 to 1997 and serving as a professor at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in 1999.
