Michael Janisch, born February 2, 1979 in Red Wing, Minnesota, is an American bassist, producer, and composer. He began playing piano at age four and electric bass at ten, later attending the Berklee College of Music after receiving a scholarship. In November 2008, Michael Janisch co-led the TransAtlantic Collective (TAC) with Patrick Cornelius, releasing their debut album Traveling Song. His solo career commenced in January 2010 with the release of Purpose Built, which led to the formation of his record label Whirlwind Recordings. Notable albums include Paradigm Shift (2015) and Worlds Collide (2019). Michael Janisch has collaborated extensively, working with artists such as Joe Lovano, Quincy Jones, and Wynton Marsalis. He was nominated for a MOBO Award in 2016 in the category Best Jazz Act. Additionally, he teaches jazz double/electric bass at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
