Biography
Melanie Jayne Chisholm, better known as Melanie C, Mel C or "Sporty Spice" during her adventure with the successful Spice Girls, to whom she owes her fame, was born in Whiston (Lancashire) on January 14, 1974. She took advantage of a break from the five singers to launch her own career, beginning with a duet with Bryan Adams on the track "When You're Gone" (1998), then with the triple platinum-selling Northern Star album (No. 4, 1999), which sold five million copies and included the first single "Goin' Down" and the number ones "Never Be the Same Again" with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and "I Turn to You". Her undiminished popularity in the UK was confirmed with the album Reason (No. 5, 2003), featuring six chart-topping tracks including "Here It Comes Again" (No. 7). Two years later, the third album Beautiful Intentions (2005), a platinum-selling album selling a million and a half copies, was especially noted in the European charts for the hit "First Day of My Life". Despite other minor successes, the album This Time (2007) proved less popular, while the Spice Girls reunited for a tour. Returning to solo work, Melanie C set up her own label, Red Girl Records, and recorded the album The Sea (2011), followed by Stages (2012), featuring covers of musical theatre standards, including the duet "I Know Him So Well" with Emma Bunton. After the live recording Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire (2013), demonstrating that she is also a stage singer, the ex-Spice Girls invested herself in hosting Asia's Got Talent (2015), The X Factor Australia, Superstar and Asia's Got Talent (2015), alongside Anggun. She then returned to the studio for her seventh album Version of Me (2016), featuring remixes. The unreleased title track "High Heels" (2019) was followed in 2020 by a homonymous album preceded by four singles, including "Fearless", a duet with Nadia Rose. Back in 2025, Mel C takes part in DJ Anna Lunoe's single "Girl", and releases a new track of her own, "Sweat ". Sweat".
