Mayo Okamoto, born on January 9, 1974, in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, is a Japanese singer-songwriter. Her debut came with the single "TOMORROW" released in May 1995, which she originally wrote for a friend's wedding. The song became an instant hit, reaching Number 1 on the Oricon charts and selling over two million copies. Following this breakthrough, Okamoto released her first album SUN & MOON on June 10, 1995. She continued to release successful albums including Pureness (1996), and Smile (1997). Notable singles from these albums include "Sonomama no Kimi de Ite" and "Nakechau Hodo Setsunai Kedo". Okamoto's music career was marked by a series of hit songs, including "Alone" (1996) and "Sayonara" (1997). In 2000, Okamoto took a hiatus from her music career to give birth to her first child. She returned in 2005, signing with Avex Trax and releasing the album Saikai ~Kimi ni Tsudzuru~.
