Biography
Born on 18 July 1980 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, the J-pop singer and actor RyÅko Hirosue (åºæ« 涼å, Hirosue RyÅko, born 18 July 1980) began her acting career aged 15 on the Fuji TV show Heart ni S in 1995 and later that year was crowned Best Newcomer at the 10th Television Drama Academy Awards for Fuji TV's comedy series Shota no Sushi. She was awarded the Sponichi Grand Prize New Talent Award at the Mainichi Film Awards and Best New Talent at the Yokohama Film Festival for her debut film role in 1998's 20th Century Nostalgia. She went on to become best known for her co-starring role in the Luc Besson-produced French action-comedy Wasabi (2001), which helped to put her on the international map, and has continued to reap accolades for her acting work, notably the 2008 Japanese film Departures, which won Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards. She has forged a music career in tandem with her acting career, releasing her debut J-pop single "Maji de Koisuru GobyÅmae" in 1997 and a further string of singles in subesquent years, from "Wind Prism" in 1997 and "Jeans" and "Summer Sunset" in 1998 to "Kajitsu" in 2000. Her debut full-length, Arigato!, also arrived in 1997 with Private following in 1999. The Kajitsu EP arrived in 2000 and 2013 saw the release of a singles collection called Daisuki! After some time away from the spotlight, RyÅko Hirosue made a comeback in 2021 with the "Kimi No Egao" single.
