Biography

Maybebop was a German a cappella quartet from Germany. Formed in 1992, the group’s founding member was Oliver Gies. Initially a jazz ensemble, the group expanded their repertoire to include pop, rock, and gospel covers. Their first album, Light Fare (1996), was released. Notable members included Jan Malte Bürger, Lukas Teske, and Christoph Hiller. Their musical profile sharpened with the album On the Ears (2001). In 2004, the Christmas album Christmas (2004) was awarded “Best Christmas CD of the World” by CASA in 2006. Maybebop released the single “Rubber Tree” (2008), which was temporarily banned in Turkey. The group was known for improvisations based on audience suggestions.
