Matthias Schriefl, born on April 9, 1981, in Kempten, Germany, is a jazz trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader. He began his career at an early age, becoming the Bundessieger at "Jugend musiziert" at 11 years old. By 15, he was part of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Bayern and Bundesjazzorchester. At 17, with his band Sidewinders, Schriefl won "Jugend Jazzt" and recorded their first album, Die Bestie. He studied at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium in Munich and later at the Hochschule für Musik Köln under Andy Haderer. Schriefl's breakthrough came with his band Shreefpunk, which gained international recognition through their albums Shreefpunk Plus Strings (2007) and Shreefpunk Live In Köln (2009). The band toured extensively, including performances in Europe, Mexico, Australia, and West Africa. Schriefl also led other projects like Six, Alps & Jazz, and Matria. Notable awards include the WDR-Jazzpreis (2006) and the Förderpreis des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (2008).
