Biography
American singer-songwriter Matthew Brendan McAndrew (September 6, 1990) jumped to fame in 2014 after finishing runner-up on the seventh season of the reality competition series The Voice. Raised in the small town of Barnegat Light in New Jersey, he began writing songs and performing from a very young age. It was during high school that he decided to fully devote himself to music, later attending the University of Arts in Philadelphia. After graduating in 2013, Matt McAndrew started playing at local bars and open mic nights while teaching at a music school. In 2014, he independently released his debut album View of the Pines. That same year, he was also selected to participate in The Voice, where he competed as part of Adam Levineâs team. Following a series of passionate performances, he reached the showâs grand finale and placed second after Craig Wayne Boyd. The single âWasted Love,â was released shortly after and peaked at Number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the highest-charting effort by a The Voice contestant. In 2015, Matt McAndrew signed a record deal with Republic Records, only to abandon the label the following year citing creative differences. His EP Rush In Slowly arrived in 2016. In the summer of 2019, he became the frontman of the post-hardcore band Slaves, with whom he released the singles âHeavier,â âPrayers,â and âLike I Do.â
