Matthew Loveland Dennis, professionally known as Matt Dennis, and born February 11, 1914, in Seattle, was an American jazz pianist and singer. He began his career in 1933 as a vocalist and pianist with Horace Heidt's orchestra. Matthew Loveland Dennis joined Tommy Dorsey's band in 1940, composing the hit "Everything Happens to Me" recorded by Frank Sinatra. After serving in the United States Air Force during World War II, he returned to songwriting and arranging. Notable songs include "Violets for Your Furs" (1941) and "Angel Eyes" (1953). Dennis also released several albums under his name, including Plays and Sings Matt Dennis (1954) and Welcome Matt (1959). He passed away on June 21, 2002, in Riverside, California.
