Born in Stockholm, Sweden on June 8, 1948, Mats RÃ¥dberg was a Swedish country music singer and songwriter. His recording career began in the late 1960s with the band Rank Strangers. They released one album under that name â Country Our Way (1969) â before they briefly changed their name to Rank Strangers featuring Mats RÃ¥dberg. By the early 1970s, he was releasing albums under the name Rankarna & Mats RÃ¥dberg. He participated in Melodifestivalen 1977 (the contest to help find the Swedish entry to the Eurovision Song Contest). His song, âDu och jag och sommarenâ, took 10th place. By the late 1970s, he had begun releasing albums under his own name as well as albums with Rankarna. His 1980 collaboration with Elizabeth Andreasson, Iâm the Singer, Youâre the Song, was a great success. Three years later, he had a hit single with âPeta in en pinne I brasanâ (a Swedish-language version of Shel Silversteinâs âPut Another Log on the Fireâ). RÃ¥dberg continued to tour in Sweden and release albums including The Race Is On (with Rankarna). Mats RÃ¥dberg died on June 27, 2020 at the age of 72.
