With their pop-leaning, trendy take on country music, the married couple of Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan landed 7 top 40 country hits throughout the 1970s. They met while both were trying to establish themselves in the Florida entertainment scene in the mid â60s. They soon married, and then began performing publicly as a duo in 1967. They landed a record deal at thee end of the decade and released their debut LP, Birds of a Feather, in 1970. The album hit number 16 on the country chart powered by the single âTennessee Bird Walkâ a number 1 country hit with enough crossover appeal to hit number 23 on the pop chart. The follow-up single, âHumphrey the Camelâ got them back in the country top 5. Their sophomore album, 1972âs Two Sides of Jack and Misty, was another top 40 country album, and had a trio of top 40 country singles including âThere Must Be More to Life (Than Growing Old)â and âSomewhere in Virginia in the Rainâ. Though they would continue to issue singes, including 1974âs Just One More Songâ (their final top 40 country hit), throughout the rest of the decade, they would not release new album until 19897âs Sweet Memories. They fashioned a low-key comeback in the 2000s forming their own record label, Velvet Saw, and releasing albums regularly through 2009. Misty Morgan passed away on January 1, 2021.
