Father-daughter pop duo Mat and Savanna Shaw formed when the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the world in February 2020. Savanna Shaw (born August 4, 2004) could no longer attend choir rehearsals because of the pandemic. So she created several social media accounts to connect virtually with her friends. She had the idea of filming herself singing "The Prayer", but as she was too shy to do it alone, she asked her father Mat Shaw (born July 26, 1980) to perform the song with her. The video she posted went viral around the world and brought media attention to the duo, who have appeared on numerous TV shows in the U.S. and even Japan. Although the music they perform is religiously inspired, the duo's intention was to remain vague about politics and religion, and not to push their audience to adhere to their own beliefs. The duo's debut album, Picture This, was released in October 2020. Projecting a positive message, Mat and Savanna Shaw's music has touched many people emotionally affected by the pandemic. They released Merry Little Christmas, a seven-song holiday album, in November 2020. The duo released the album Stand by Me in May 2021, followed by The Joy of Christmas in November 2021. Their repertoire of covers and original songs grew, with a very favorable public reception for the albums Happy Like That and Christmas Together, released in 2022, followed by A Christmas We'll Remember in 2023. In 2025, as usual, the duo released a pop album, Just How Strong You Are, and at the end of the year a new recording of carols, the Love Like It's Christmas EP.
