Formed under the vision of entrepreneur Emanuel Gurgel in November 1990 in Fortaleza, Ceará, Mastruz com Leite pioneered the forró eletrônico movement by blending traditional trio instrumentation (accordion, zabumba, triangle) with electric guitars, keyboards, and horn sectionsâa format that quickly became a national phenomenon. Their first hit, âO Rei do Baralho,â cleared the way for the 1991 debut album Arrocha o Nó, which included âEu Preciso de Você,â followed by the 1993 release Só Pra Xamegar, featuring the breakout single âMeu Vaqueiro, Meu Peão,â and the gold-certified Coisa Nossa the same year. In 1996, they paid homage to forró icons with Mastruz com Leite no Forró do Gonzagão and ... do Jackson do Pandeiro, and in 1997 their live album Mastruz com Leite Ao Vivo went platinum with over 1.5 million copies sold. The 1998 single âTatuagemâ dominated radio across Northeastern Brazil, and in 1999 they appeared in Xuxa's show, further expanding their audience. Into the 2000s and beyond, core members Bel and Tony Silveira have remained steadfast while the band evolved with new vocalists and touring musicians. Subsequent highlights include a string of singles like âNa Boca do Golâ (2024) and âRotinaâ (2025), capped by the Mastruz Canta Luiz Gonzaga EP (June 6, 2025), showcasing their enduring commitment to honoring Brazilian forró traditions.
