Masanori Hamada (born May 11, 1963 in Osaka Prefecture) is the comedian of Japan's most famous comedy duo, Downtown, and is also a hugely influential host, actor, and singer. On December 12, 1997, he released his solo single , "Haru wa wa mataika," which was produced by Tamio Okuda. This song was produced by Tamio Okuda and was widely popular as a commercial song for East Japan Railway Company. The song blended Tamio Okuda's distinctive sense of energy with Hamada's robust singing voice, and broke new ground as a solo artist. He went on to collaborate with top musicians on a succession of successful projects, including "Chicken Rice" with Noriyuki Makihara and "Hamada Bamyu Bamyu" by Yasutaka Nakata. He has a strong connection with music in his personal life as well, with his eldest son, Hama Okamoto. His melancholy vocals continue to touch the hearts of many Japanese people.
