Biography

Mary Jane Lamond is a Canadian Celtic folk musician who performs traditional Gaelic songs from Cape Breton Island. Lamond's career began with the independent release of the album Bho Thir Nan Craobh (1995). Her collaboration with fiddler Ashley MacIsaac on the single “Sleepy Maggie” (1995) marked a significant breakthrough. Lamond followed this with the solo album Suas e! (1997), which received nominations for a Juno Award and an East Coast Music Award. Discography releases include the albums Làn Dùil (1999), Orain Ghàidhlig (2001), and Stòras (2005). Her 2012 collaboration with fiddler Wendy MacIsaac, Seinn (2012), was named one of the top 10 folk and Americana albums of the year by National Public Radio. Lamond received the Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Album of the Year in 2013 for the project.
