Biography

Natalie MacMaster is a Canadian fiddler from Troy, Nova Scotia, known for her expertise in Cape Breton fiddle music. She began playing the fiddle at age nine and made her performing debut the same year at a square dance in Glencoe Mills, Nova Scotia. She released her first album Four on the Floor (1989), followed by Road to the Isle (1991). In 1999, she performed at the Juno Awards show. MacMaster collaborated with notable artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Faith Hill, Carlos Santana, and Alison Krauss, and performed at festivals including Celtic Colours in Cape Breton and MerleFest in the United States. She won two Juno Awards for best instrumental album, multiple Artist of the Year awards from the East Coast Music Association, and was inducted into the Order of Canada in 2006 and the Order of Nova Scotia in 2020. Other notable releases include the albums Fit as a Fiddle (1993) and In My Hands (1999).
