Biography
Manteca, a Canadian jazz fusion band, was formed in 1979 by percussionist Matt Zimbel and bassist Henry Heillig. The group began performing in Toronto and quickly gained traction, touring annually in Canada by 1987. Their debut album, Manteca, was released in 1980. Manteca's breakthrough moment came with their US debut at the Concord Jazz Festival in 1989. The band received a Juno Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year in 1989. After a hiatus, they released Onward in 2007 and resumed touring. Their discography includes albums like Fun Fun - A Night in Montreal (2008) and Monday Night at the Mensa Disco (2013).
