Martine Catharina Maria Bijl, born on 19â¯Marchâ¯1948 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, was a Dutch singer, actress, writer, presenter, and cabaret performer. Discovered in 1965 by radio DJ Ben Levi, she released her first EP, Chansons, that year, after which she made her television debut and opened for Claude Nougaro in Paris. Her early releases were followed by the albums Martine Bijl (Zingt) (1966), Martine (12 Nieuwe Luisterliedjes) (1967), and Zingt Liedjes Uit De Tijd Van Ot En Sien (1968). Beyond her music career, Bijl worked as an actress, television presenter, singer, writer, and translator of musicals and television comedies. She was a frequent panelist on television programs, performed one-woman theater shows, and wrote and illustrated children's books. She also produced a series of gramophone records featuring Walt Disney stories. Bijl continued recording into the 1990s with Pippi Langkous (1999) before her death on 30â¯Mayâ¯2019 in Maarssen.
