Martin Dupont, a French new wave band, was formed in the early 1980s in Marseille by Alain Seghir, Brigitte Balian, and Catherine Loy. The band emerged from the punk movement and established itself in the new wave genre. Their debut album, Just Because..., was released in 1984. After Loy's departure, Beverley Jane Crew joined the band. Subsequent albums included Sleep Is A Luxury (1985) and Hot Paradox (1987). Martin Dupont gained recognition for their electronic music style and collaborations with artists like The Lotus Eaters and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The band disbanded in 1987. Their music was sampled by prominent artists including Madlib, Tricky, Kanye West, and Theophilus London.
