Biography

Dessau, an American industrial rock band based in Nashville, Tennessee, was founded by composer John Elliott in 1983. The group's early releases included the self-released EP Red Languages in 1985 and Happy Mood the following year. In 1988, Dessau released a cover of Joy Division's "Isolation," produced by Paul Barker of Revolting Cocks and Al Jourgensen of Ministry. The band signed with Carlyle Records for their debut studio album, Exercise in Tension, released in 1989. Their second album, Dessau, was released under Mausoleum in 1995. Notable releases include the EP Details Sketchy and various compilation appearances such as "On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away" on Fifth Colmn's World War Underground. The band also covered Ministry's "Revenge" for a tribute album in 1999.
