Mark Erelli, born on June 20, 1974, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He released his debut EP, Lonely Town, in 1994 and gained wider recognition with the album Long Way From Heaven in 1997. After signing with Signature Sounds Recordings, Erelli released his self-titled album and won the New Folk Award at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1999. He followed with several acclaimed releases, including Compass & Companion (2001), which reached the Top 10 of the Americana chart, and collaborative projects such as Hillbilly Pilgrim (2004), exploring Western swing, country, and rockabilly. In 2005, his song "People Look Around", co-written with Catie Curtis, received the Grand Prize at the International Songwriting Competition, further establishing his reputation as a songwriter within the American folk and Americana music scenes.
