Biography

Maria Scheiblhuber, known professionally as MarieMarie, was born in 1984 in Bobingen, Germany, and is a singer, music producer, composer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. She began playing the harp as a child, performing in school ensembles and recording a harp part for the Ärzte album Unplugged – Rock ’n’ Roll Realschule in 2002. After completing her Abitur, she studied harp at Berklee College of Music as a scholarship recipient, returning to Germany in 2007 to perform as a singer-songwriter in clubs and bars, occasionally touring under the alias Kitty Royale and participating in the Salzburg Festival opening. MarieMarie’s breakthrough came with the singles “Under The Neon Sky” (2013) and “Candy Jar” (2013), followed by the single “Stronger Than Ever” (2015). She released the album Dream Machine (2014), which included “Cotton Candy Hurricane” and introduced her coined term “Folktronic-Pop.” In 2014, she entered the German pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with “Cotton Candy Hurricane” and “Candy Jar”, advancing to the second round. MarieMarie signed with Universal Music in 2012, toured Germany from 2009 to 2015, and served as support for Bryan Ferry and Pet Shop Boys in Munich. Her work has been noted for blending folk traditions with electronic pop, contributing to the German electronic music scene.
