French-Canadian pop star Marie-Mai was born Marie-Mai Brouchard in Varennes, Quebec on July 7, 1984. A born performer, she grew up she learned to play the piano and taking numerous roles in musicals. She finished third in the 2003 season of the reality competition program Star Académie where her comfort with stronger rock material stood her out from the pack. That led to her capturing a part in a Quebec production of Rent in 2004, the same year she issued her debut album, the pop oriented Inoxydable. Thanks to an extensive touring schedule, it sold well and she enjoyed hit singles with "Il faut que tu t'en ailles" and "Encore une nuit". 2007âs more rock oriented Dangereuse Attraction sold as well and did even better on the charts, hitting number 2 on the strength of singles like âMentirâ an âQui prendra ma placeâ. Her hot streak continued with 2009âs Version 3.0, where she found a balance between pop and rock. The next decade brought two more number 2 albums, 2012âs Miroir and 2014âs M. She returned to her reality TV roots as a coach on the 2019 season of The Launch. That year she enjoyed one of the biggest hits of her career with âThe Good Onesâ, a collaboration with Canadian singer and songwriter Tebey that fused country and pop so appealingly that it became a top 10 hit across Canada. The song would appear on and provide the title for Tebeyâs 2021 album.
