Biography
Marian Montgomery, born Marian Maud Runnells on November 17, 1934 in Natchez, Mississippi, was an American jazz singer. She started her career performing in clubs in Atlanta and Chicago, where Peggy Lee recommended her to Capitol Records. Under the name Marian Montgomery, she released three albums for Capitol in the early 1960s: Swings for Winners and Losers; Let There Be Love, Let There Be Swing, Let There Be; and Lovin' is Livin'. In 1963, she recorded the original version of "That's Life", later popularized by Frank Sinatra. Montgomery moved to the United Kingdom in 1965, where she married pianist Laurie Holloway. Her final studio album, That Lady from Natchez, was released in 1997. She continued performing until shortly before her death on July 22, 2002, at age 67.
