MarÃa Luisa LandÃn RodrÃguez was a Mexican singer born on October 9, 1921, in Mexico City. She performed boleros and was referred to as La Reina del Bolero. LandÃn began her career in 1935 with her sister, Avelina LandÃn, as the duo Pirita y Jade. The sisters performed on the radio stations XEYZ, XEFO, and XEQ. Following her sisterâs departure in 1942, LandÃn formed a trio with Emma and Aurora del Mar and collaborated with tenor Néstor Mesta Chaires. She recorded the bolero âHay que saber perderâ in 1941. In 1942, she recorded âCanción del almaâ with composer Rafael Hernández MarÃn. She recorded âAmor perdidoâ in 1949, which appeared in a 1950 namesake film. LandÃn collaborated with Pedro Flores and performed international tours until the 1980s. She died on June 20, 2014, in Mexico City.
