Maria Cole was an American jazz singer born on August 1, 1922, in Boston. She began her career performing under the name Marie Ellington and worked with notable figures such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Maria met Nat King Cole while both were singing at the Zanzibar club, leading to their marriage on March 28, 1948. Her debut album, A Girl They Call Maria, was released in 1954 under Kapp Records. In the 1960s, she co-hosted a talk show called Tempo on KHJ television in Los Angeles. Her subsequent albums included Maria Cole (1960) and Love is a Special Feeling (1966). Maria Cole passed away on July 10, 2012, at the age of 89, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
