Biography

Mari Wilson, born Mari Macmillan Ramsay on September 29, 1954, in Neasden, London, is a British singer known for her contributions to pop and jazz music. She began her career with the release of "Just What I Always Wanted" in 1982, which peaked at number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. This breakthrough was followed by several other hit singles, including "Cry Me a River", a cover that reached number 27 in the UK. Wilson's debut album, Showpeople, was released in 1983 and charted at number 24. She continued to release albums throughout her career, including The Rhythm Romance in 1991, which combined jazz standards with 1960s songs and original material. In 2005, she returned to recording with the album Dolled Up, followed by a compilation of her hits, The Platinum Collection, to celebrate her 25th anniversary in the music industry. Wilson has also performed in musicals such as Dusty – The Musical and collaborated with artists like Barb Jungr and Claire Martin in the cabaret act Girl Talk. In 2018, she made a notable appearance with Soft Cell at their final live concert Say Hello and Wave Goodbye, One Last Time at The O2 Arena in London.
