Biography

Although known primarily as a jazz performer, the Canadian singer Holly Cole is not afraid to cross genres and her on-stage repertoire is just as likely to include a selection of rock and pop songs, show tunes from the world of stage and cinema and country hits. Her distinctive voice and willingness to explore other musical avenues has won her a wide and loyal fan base, particularly in her native Canada and also in Japan. Her father was the well known broadcaster Leon Cole, a network which concentrated on classical music and jazz and therefore it's perhaps not surprising that his daughter sought to pursue a career in music. In 1986 she formed a trio with American bass player David Piltch (ex Blood, Sweat and Tears) and pianist Aaron Davis and the band, under the name the Holly Cole Trio, released their first album 'Girl Talk' in 1990 to widespread critical acclaim. After releasing a number of recordings Cole began a career as a solo performer and she started to explore new musical directions. In later years her recording output has become sporadic with the most recent recording being the 2012 studio album 'Night'.
