Biography

Mamoru Motooka is a Japanese pianist born in Osaka, Japan. He began his professional career at the age of 17 and has since made significant strides in the music industry. He is known for leading the three-stringed instrument band URUSHI and the shamisen & piano duo SHAMPIA, with which he has performed in 35 concerts across 16 European countries. Motooka's compositions have been featured at major European festivals and venues such as the Ukrainian National Philharmonic Hall. He has released albums under Austrian and British labels, showcasing his versatility across genres from jazz to pop. In April 2021, he released his first solo album 2020, featuring all original compositions. His second solo album Nenia was recorded at the Vienna Musikverein on February 24, 2022, the day Russia invaded Ukraine. This album reached number three on the chart in Japan. Motooka's collaborations extend to numerous domestic and international artists, including performances with Korean singer ZERO for the drama Beautiful Days theme song and supporting Yukaichi's concert tour. He is also a regular pianist on NHK's New BS Japanese Songs and has performed with the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra. His extensive studio work includes contributions to multiple CDs and DVDs, solidifying his status as a multi-talented musician.
