Osamu Kitajima, born on February 3, 1949, in Japan, is a musician, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He began studying classical guitar and piano as a child and later joined his cousin YūzŠKayama's band The Launchers in the 1960s. In 1976, Kitajima released his debut album Benzaiten, which blended progressive rock with traditional Japanese music. He moved to Los Angeles and signed with Island Records. His critically acclaimed album Behind the Light was released in 1992, featuring elements of New Age and traditional Japanese music. Throughout his career, he collaborated with various artists and producers, including Chris Mancinelli, and founded East Quest Records in 2000. He earned a doctorate in music therapy in 2004 and has since resided and worked in Los Angeles.
