Biography

Mamiko Takai, born December 28, 1966, in Japan, is a Japanese idol and singer. She began her career as a member of the J-pop girl band Onyanko Club in 1985, debuting with the duo Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi alongside Yukiko Iwai. Mamiko Takai's solo debut came in June 1986 with the single "Cinderella-tachi e no Dengon", which reached Number 1 on the Oricon chart. The second single, "Melody"(1986), also reached number one on the chart. In April 1987, Takai graduated from Onyanko Club and Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi to pursue a solo career, releasing her debut album Itoguchi in January 1987. She starred in several dramas and movies, including Women in Love (1986) and Daddy Longlegs (1986). Takai's popularity extended beyond music, with a large-scale Handshake Event held at Osaka-jō Hall in July 1986, where she shook hands with 16,000 fans. Her radio program, Smiling Message, was launched on Nippon Broadcasting System in October 1986. In May 1988, just three weeks after the official fan club was formed, Takai married producer Yasushi Akimoto and retired from the entertainment industry.
