Lucille Nelson Hegamin, born November 29, 1894, in Macon, Georgia, was an American singer. She began performing at a young age and by 15 was touring with the Leonard Harper Minstrel Stock Company. In 1914, she settled in Chicago, where she met and married her husband Bill Hegamin and performed under the billing "The Georgia Peach." In November 1920, Hegamin became the second African-American blues singer to record, following Mamie Smith. She released notable recordings for Arto Records and Paramount, including "Arkansas Blues" and "Jazz Me Blues," which became a jazz standard. She toured with the musical revue Shuffle Along in 1922 and recorded over forty sides for Cameo Records from 1922 through late 1926. After retiring from music as a profession around 1934, she returned to record Songs We Taught Your Mother in 1961 and Basket of Blues in 1962. Hegamin passed away on March 1, 1970, in New York City.
