Known by his first name Lucas for the 1994 hit "Lucas with the Lid Off", Danish rapper, composer and producer Lucas Secon was born in Copenhagen on November 3, 1970. The son of a Danish woman and an American entrepreneur, musician, composer and reporter for Billboard magazine, he grew up in an environment conducive to his musical ambitions. Familiar with the studio, he was signed to Uptown Records in 1990, and recorded the album To Rap My World Around You (1991), which opened up to the then-fashionable rap jazz and R&B, and included the single "Show Me Your Moves". Spotted by the Atlantic-affiliated Big Beat label, he signed a new contract to produce his second album, Lucacentric (1994), buoyed by the success of the track "Lucas with the Lid Off", ranked #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The video for the track, directed by Frenchman Michel Gondry, won a Grammy Award and an MTV Video Music Award in 1995. Lucas Secon then moved away from the microphone to concentrate on composing and producing, notably for artists such as The Pussycat Dolls, Alesso, Steve Aoki, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, Toni Braxton and Mos Def.
