Biography
Louis Mazetier is a French pianist specializing in stride and traditional jazz. He began classical piano lessons at age seven and discovered jazz in 1974 through Fats Waller, teaching himself the style while drawing influence from Donald Lambert, James P. Johnson, and others, as well as boogie-woogie and blues. In the late 1970s, Mazetier studied mathematics and medicine in Paris while performing in local jazz clubs such as Le BÅuf sur le Toit and the Caveau de la Huchette. He formed a musical partnership with François Rilhac in 1983 and also played in Gilbert Lerouxâs orchestra. In 1988, he founded a trio with Patrick Saussois and Enzo Mucci, accompanying Maxim Saury and Benny Waters, and joined the group Paris Washboard. Mazetierâs solo career gained momentum from 1991, performing at major French jazz festivals and internationally. He has collaborated extensively with artists including Warren Vaché and Neville Dickie. Notable albums include In Concert - What A Treat! (1996). Mazetier has written for French jazz magazines and received awards such as the Prix Sidney Bechet.
