Biography

Los Charros de Lumaco, formed in 2004 by guitarist, composer and vocalist Marcio Toloza Soto in the commune of Lumaco, Chile, emerged from Toloza’s early experience in Argentina where he learned guitar under Hugo Mariángel. The group’s breakthrough came with the album Simpática y Muy Bonita (2005) released on Star Round, which propelled them to national recognition and earned a gold disc shortly thereafter. Their studio album La Nueva Fiesta de los Charrosfollowed on 8 September 2013 under Master Media, achieving double platinum with over 26 000 copies sold and solidifying their signature cumbia ranchera style. Subsequent releases included Jefe de Jefes (2017), live and compilation recordings such as Solo Éxitos (En Vivo), and Los Insuperables (2022). The band toured extensively across Chile, performed at the XXXVIII Festival del Huaso de Olmué and other major events including the Teletón and the Torre Entel celebration. They received multiple certifications – including three gold and five platinum albums – alongside a municipal honor in 2015 from Lumaco’s mayor for elevating the commune’s cultural profile. Their catalog remains influential in Chilean tropical music, with enduring hits like “Traicionera” and “Charros para rato”.
