Biography

Formed in Traiguén (Araucanía, Chile) in 2005, Los Gatos Negros emerged with a “ranchera tropical” sound that fused cumbia rhythms with guitar- and keyboard-led ranchera, introducing themselves on the debut album Los Felinos del Ritmo for Tekyla Records before following with Con Sabor Tropical, Una Nueva Aventura, and Vamos a Bailar as their regional touring intensified across the south of Chile. Early singles such as “El Recluso” and “La Pareja Ideal” became setlist anchors and radio staples, paving the way for mid-2010s releases including Corazón y Ritmo, Rancheras Populares, and La Fiesta Continúa, highlighted by the track “Mándame un WhatsApp.” A refreshed studio run arrived with 2018's Estamos de Vuelta, then the retrospective set 20 Años de Cumbia Ranchera (2023) gathered new recordings alongside fan favorites like “La Bamba” and “Chimilonga,” consolidating their streaming presence. Lineups over this period featured vocalists Max Arrive and Víctor San Martín, with Gary Garrido on percussion, Manuel Morales on guitar, and later members César Aravena and Ricardo López joining the core.
