Biography

Radio DJs Alberto Cazzola, Lodovico Guenzi, and Alberto Guidetti formed the indie-rock band Lo Stato Sociale in Bologna, Italy, in 2009. After releasing their debut EP, 2010's Welfare Pop, as a trio, the musicians added Enrico Roberto and Francesco Draicchio to Lo Stato Sociale's lineup in 2011. A second EP, Amore ai tempi dell'Ikea, was released that same year, followed by the debut album Turisti della democrazia in 2012. Turisti della democrazia was a critical success, winning The Premio Buscaglione — also known as "The Buscaglione Prize" — in 2012 and paving the way for 2014's L'Italia peggiore, which peaked at Number 11 on Italy's FIMI Albums Chart. Lo Stato Sociale's third album, Amore, lavoro e altri miti da sfatare, charted even higher, climbing to Number 6 in 2017. One year later, the band participated in the Sanremo Music Festival, the long-running Italian music competition that inspired the Eurovision Song Contest. Lo Stato Sociale finished the contest in second place with "Una vita in vacanza," which climbed to Number 1 on the Italian charts following the festival's conclusion. The band returned to the Sanremo Music Festival in 2021 with another song, "Combat Pop (ALBI #1)," which climbed to Number 15 on the Italian charts. That same year, Lo Stato Sociale released a series of five EPs — Bebo, Checco, Carota, Lodo, and Albi — which were subsequently compiled into a full-length album, 2021's Attentato Alla Musica Italiana.
