Biography
Elizabeth Mary Landreaux, known professionally as Lizzie Miles, was born on March 31, 1895, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She began singing in her Catholic church and at local events, later working with musicians like Joe Oliver and Kid Ory by 1909. Miles' first recordings were made in 1922 for Okeh Records, including "Wicked Blues" and "Lonesome Monday Morning Blues". She toured the U.S. and Europe, collaborating with artists such as Manuel Manetta and Jelly Roll Morton. Despite retiring due to illness in the 1930s, she returned to performing in the mid-1930s and continued working with jazz bands until 1959. Her version of "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" was featured on the soundtrack of Woody Allen's 2013 film Blue Jasmine. Miles passed away from a heart attack on March 17, 1963.
