Lina Nyberg, born on February 27, 1970, in Stockholm, is a Swedish jazz singer and composer. In 1990, she formed the Lina Nyberg Quintet. After graduating from the Stockholm Royal College of Music in 1993, Nyberg released her debut solo album Close, a duo recording with pianist Esbjörn Svensson, which became an instant success. In 1995, the quintet won a Swedish Grammy Award for the album When the Smile Shines Through. Nyberg has released over fourteen albums as a solo artist, including So Many Stars (1996), Open (1998), and Palaver (2011). Her music blends Brazilian tropicalia, European free form, contemporary classical, the Great American Songbook, and traditional jazz. Nyberg has collaborated with notable artists such as Bernt Rosengren and Nisse Sandström. She received numerous awards, including the Jazz Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2016. In 2017, the double album Terrestrial was released, and she was appointed composer in Residence at Bohuslän Big Band in 2022.
