Biography

Jan Bertil Allan, born on November 7, 1934 in Falun, Sweden, is a jazz trumpeter and composer. He began his career as a pianist in 1951 before transitioning to the trumpet after moving to Stockholm. Allan played with Carl-Henrik Norin's orchestra and later worked with Lars Gullin and Rolf Billberg from 1954 to 1955, and again with Norin from 1955 to 1959. He led a quintet with Billberg from 1960 to 1963 and collaborated with notable musicians such as Arne Domnérus, Georg Riedel, and Bengt Hallberg throughout the 1960s. From 1968 to 1975, he was a member of the Swedish Radio Jazz Group. His album Jan Allan -70 (1970) won a Grammis Award for Jazz of the Year in 1970. In 2015, he received a Medal of Literature and Art.
