Lights Out Asia, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based post-rock and electronic band, was formed in February 2003 by Chris Schafer and Mike Ystad. The duo, former members of Aurore Rien, sought to explore the intersection of post-rock, electronic, and ambient music. Their debut album, Garmonia, released in 2003, garnered favorable reviews and led to opening slots for Mogwai later that year. Bassist/guitarist Mike Rush joined the lineup shortly after. The band signed with n5MD in 2007 and released three albums on this imprint, including Tanks and Recognizers (2007), Eyes Like Brontide (2008), and In the Days of Jupiter (2010). Their album, Hy-Brasil, was released in 2012. Lights Out Asia was known for blending synthesized atmospheres with effects-laden guitars and low-mixed vocals, contributing to the dream-pop and shoegaze genres.
