Biography

Laura Jurd, born in 1990 in Medstead, Hampshire, United Kingdom, is a British trumpeter and composer. She began playing piano at age four and started learning the trumpet in primary school. After studying at the Trinity College of Music in London until 2013, Jurd formed the quartet Dinosaur in 2010. Jurd's debut album Landing Ground was released in 2012. She has collaborated with various ensembles, including the BBC Concert Orchestra and Ligeti Quartet. Her compositions have earned her several awards, such as the Parliamentary Jazz Awards' Instrumentalist of the Year in 2015 and the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition in 2011 She released other albums under her name, including Human Spirit (2015), Stepping Back, Jumping In (2019), Trio (2019), The Big Friendly Album (2022), Fanfares and Freedom with saxophonist Paul Dunmall (2024), and Rites & Revelations (2025), which reached number 8 on UK's Jazz & Blues Albums chart.
