Biography

Lara Somogyi is a contemporary classical harpist and composer based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Kauai, Hawaii, and New York, Lara is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and was named an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for her contributions to her field. Years spent sculpting her sound and developing her repertoire of contemporary harp expressions have led her to write compositions for solo harp and electronics. Her first album ! (2022), released on Decca Records' Mercury KX label, blends traditional harp, electronics and pedal effects. In 2024, the Sundance Film Festival presented Dana Adam Shapiro's documentary Better Angels: The Gospel According to Tammy Faye, with music composed by Lara Somogyi, in collaboration with Cyrus Reynolds. The harpist also collaborated on Bonobo's Fragments, the soundtracks to Hans Zimmer's Blue Planet II with Radiohead and The Lion King, The Color Purple, The Green Book, The Haunted Mansion, The Bridgerton Chronicle, Queen Charlotte, King Richard, Dans leur regard, Space Jam 2, Mrs. America, Tully, The Simpsons, The Fables, The Fables and The Fables. America, Tully, The Simpsons, Being the Queen, Animals, Black Godfather, Charlie 's Angels, Spike Lee's Oscar-nominated Da 5 Bloods, Birds of Prey and Coming 2 America. In 2025, he released his second album Désert, in collaboration with pianist Jean-Michel Blais.
