Born in Evanston, Illinois on June 16, 1953, Rob Grant is a web domain developer and musician best known as the father of singer and songwriter Lana Del Rey. He attended Prescott College in Arizona and became an executive copywriter at the Grey Group advertising agency. He then turned his attention to developing website domains, eventually honored with an award for Developer of the Year at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domain conference in 2011. In the meantime, he taught himself to play piano without the intention of becoming a professional musician. However, fate intervened when his daughter, Elizabeth Grant, became a pop star in 2010. Using the stage name Lana Del Rey, his daughterâs self-titled debut album became a critical and commercial success and paved the way for several more well-received albums. A support of his daughterâs musical career, Rob Grant would eventually co-write and play piano on the song âSweet Carolina,â which was featured on Del Reyâs 2021 album Blue Banisters. The attention he received off of this recording led to a recording contract with Decca Records and the release of the mostly instrumental album Lost at Sea (2023). The album features guest vocals from his daughter on âHollywood Bowlâ and the title track.
