Biography

Laila Dalseth is a Norwegian jazz singer born on November 6, 1940, in Bergen. She debuted in Bergen before performing on the Oslo jazz scene. Her first recording was the album Metropol Jazz (1963). Dalseth collaborated with musicians including Kjell Karlsen and Egil Kapstad. She received the Buddyprisen in 1976 and the Spellemannprisen for the recordings Just Friends (1975), Glad There Is You (1978), and Daydreams (1984). Her discography included the albums Time for Love (1986) with Red Mitchell, Travelling Light (1987) with Al Cohn, and The Judge and I (1992) with Milt Hinton. She also released the recordings Listen Here! (1999), One of a Kind (2001), and Everything I Love (2003). Five of her releases were ranked among the ten best jazz albums of the year by Cadence magazine.
