Salome Bey, born on October 10, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey, was a Canadian-American jazz and blues singer, actress, and composer. She started her career with her siblings as Andy and the Bey Sisters. In 1964, she moved to Toronto, performing in nightclubs, radio, and television. Her breakthrough came with roles in musicals like Robert Swerdlow's Blue S.A. (1969) and Justine (1970). Notable works include her role in Your Arms Too Short to Box with God, for which the album received a Grammy nomination, and her own revue Indigo. Bey collaborated on albums such as Horace Silver's The United States of Mind series and released several albums including Salome Bey (1970). In 2004, she began showing signs of dementia. Bey passed away on August 8, 2020 in Toronto.
